Match reports Game 2 v Northridge HS

Game 2 v Northridge HS
Freshman Win 41 to 25
The Freshman were first to score through a nice play to set up Sebastian Diaz, who ended up being the game high point scorer with 10 points. Hard working defence from the team caused a number of turnovers, gifting Trinity possession and enabling them  to maintain their lead. In particular, Ollie Davies played some great defence against a crafty opposite number to go nicely with his 7 points. Coach Barnes singled out Ben LoRusso for particular praise for a fine game.

Some comments from Ben about the game :
From the tip off, the boys in green lacked nothing at all, with strong defense, intelligent offense and hard crashing of the boards. Newcomer from the varsity team Sebastian Diaz, together with Ollie Davis, Edison Chan and Harry Dunn, assisted the big men with their set post play, "dingo", proving too much to handle for the skillful Americans defending their home court. Some consecutive fast breaks, often led by Ryan Maranik and Patrick Di Giannantonio, assisted the Trinity boys in scoring quick baskets and got them off to an early lead. This was great, as it enabled all the men in green to each have solid court time and prove that us Aussies can also play ball. Overall a great game by the all members of the Trinity Freshman team. Congratulations on a fine contest from both sides. The Trinity Freshman team are now 2-0 in wins--- so stay tuned in to the 2014 USA basketball tour blog for constant updates.

JV Loss 41 to 35
An exciting first half with end to end ball. Some great post moves from big man Joseph Fayed excited the growing crowd as Trinity defended their lead across the first half. James Spanos picked the pocket of the Northbridge offence and ran away for a classy two points. Some good offensive play meant that the Trinity lead at the break 23 to 15. Patrick Di Giannantonio and Don Li both had good first half periods with valuable contributions to the scoresheet.
Credit to Northbridge who increased the physicality and pressure on the inbound ball in the third time period and got the game back to a close contest. This pressure continued into the final period with many turnovers and poor finishing from Trinity. This meant that they gave up the lead, players going away from the game plan and struggling to get the ball into the front court.
Varsity loss 95 to 48
Northbridge came out firing wanting to play quick high paced basketball. Riley Smith rallied the team and scored two baskets around the post. Too often Trinity turned the ball over and the Polar Bears hurt the Greens and lead 21 to 8 at quarter time. This lead put pressure onto the Trinity players which caused them to rush when in possession and take poor options with the ball. Embarrassingly, Trinity were down 50 to 18 at the long break with some truths needing to be spoken at half time. In one of few highlights for Trinity for the quarter, Jed Keogh drained a long 3 pointer. Northbridge shot exceptionally well from long range, hitting 7 from 7. In an improved final quarter from Trinity, James Finney tried hard, though our hosts were too good and won 95 to 48.  Certainly not Trinity basketball's finest performance.
